The project is located in the old alley in Shanghai in the 1930s. We transformed a dilapidated brick-wood structure old house into a homestay. As far as possible, keep the old wood materials originally left in the house, collect some elements of old Shanghai, and mix them in new ways, just like the exchange of Chinese and Western cultures in the 1930s. However, you can still feel some petty bourgeoisie sentiment in old Shanghai. The space of the old foreign house is very small, the total area of this house is only 90 square meters.
But I have done all the functions. Now it is two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, a terrace, a living room with a writing desk and bookcase, and you can also see the projection.
The characteristic of the apartment is that the space of each part is connected. People can directly go from the bedroom on the third floor to the living room without passing. You can also reach the terrace directly from the bedroom on the second floor of onion. All parts are connected independently, ensuring a variety of functions and crowd accommodation. In this way, the narrow space makes people have an interesting feeling of exploration.
A luminous tree was also "planted" in the house. It was a lighting art installation that I invited university teachers to make. The stairs of the old house go to very dark light. The luminous tree along the stairs brings people a sense of comfort and hope, and it also symbolizes that we have given new life to this deserted old house.
Open up all the space, so that the original narrow space flow up, interesting, but become a rare advantage. We choose all natural materials: old wood, linen, paper, cement, sand, copper, cotton curtains, wool stools, etc. The skirting line is very high, 50cm. Because the skirting lines outside the old houses are very high, and now the skirting lines in the old houses of rural people are also very high. This is a very traditional method. This thick line brings a simple, natural and relaxed feeling.
Every corner of all the walls of the whole house is treated into a circular arc. The hardness of cement, natural materials and round corners give people a very gentle feeling. We hope to take good care of the guests living in the house. In every corner of the house, you can inadvertently find many artifacts from old Shanghai, which are played by gei's guests living in it. I found it from various places and saved it for two years. I hope these little things can amuse the guests and the old-fashioned rocking horses for children. I hope everyone will like our serious joke.
