Acorn is the winning concept design for the Chicco Let's go out to eat competition. Acorn is a set of three-in-one portable non-staple food conditioning kits, including mini mixing modules, mini steaming modules and stackable containers. Acorn's shape is inspired by oak fruit, and through its round design style, this product is more intimate and close to the language of mother and infant products. These tools can be easily switched according to different needs and perfectly complete baby food preparation.

Acorn is the winning concept design for Chicco Let's go out to eat competition. Acorn is a 3-in-1 baby-food preparation tool that improves the parent's outdoor eating experience. Acorn is composed of a minipimer, steamer, and food container. The shape of the Acorn is inspired by the Oak fruit of the Acorn that brings friendly and cute language. The tools are very flexible and can be switched easily for different needs.

project challenge PROJECT CHALLENGE

The ultimate goal of this design project is to design a new series of non-staple food conditioning combinations. This series of products is used to manage the preparation of the food needed for infants from weaning to the introduction of "adult" food. This series of products may even combine more later Different functions allow the product to effectively extend its service life. Another challenge of this project is to make the series easy to use at different weaning stages, which means it should manage different quantities and different kinds of baby food.

The project challenge is to design a new product family for managing the preparation of food for the baby out of home, starting from the beginning of the weaning moment, up to the introduction of “adult” food, and potentially even after, with different functions. The product should be easily used during the different weaning stages, which means, it should manage different quantities and different kinds of baby food.

01 cooking module STEAMER MODULE

In order to easily cook food outside, parents can use the cooking module so that parents can cook baby food and ingredients with a glass of water. The cooking module can cook vegetables, heat ready-to-eat foods and heat different baby drinks. There is a cleverly designed rubber piece on the top of the container lid, which can be easily pulled out so that the steam can be discharged, and it is easier to cook the ingredients.

To easily cook food outside, parents can use a steamer module which allows parents to cook the baby-food ingredient with a cup of water. The steamer can cook the vegetable, heat the ready meal, and warm up different baby beverages. The bottom of the container has a rubber piece that can be pulled out for leaving the venting hole while parents steam the food.

After steaming the ingredients, parents can change to a blender module to grind the ingredients, and parents can easily mix the ingredients, which makes it easier and easier to prepare non-staple foods.

With the minipimer module, parents can blend ingredients without any stress which makes outdoor food preparation much simpler and easier whenever they need it.

The Acorn set has several BPA-free sealed cans and lids. After the baby food is processed, parents can replace the lid on the processor with a can. The jar is small and compact, easy to store and carry. In addition, it can also be turned into a bowl for temporary feeding of babies.

In our design process, we paid close attention to the proportion, technical limitations and every small detail, making Acorn the perfect baby food preparation kit. Considering that this baby product will be used in different environments from home to park, every moment is very important. The product needs to ensure safety, collision resistance and food safety. We chose food grade PC plastic to keep bacteria away from babies.

In our design process, we have deeply focused on the proportion, technical constraints, and each small detail to make Acorn the perfect baby-food preparation KIT. Considering this baby product will use in different environments starting from home to the park, all the moments are crucial, the product needs to guarantee security, bumping resistance, and also reach food safety we chose the food-grade PC plastic to keep bacteria away from babies.

After the industrial design of the three-in-one portable non-staple food conditioner, we hope to design a unique package to complete this design concept. The visual style of this package is inspired by our childhood crayon drawings. This free painting style makes the overall design more harmonious and more people-friendly. By adding local UV, we can easily highlight the details of the graphics and improve the packaging quality.

After the industrial design for the baby-food preparation KIT, we think it could be nice to complete this design concept with unique packaging. The graphic of this packaging is inspired by the crayon drawing that reminds our childhood. By adding the UV layer, we can easily highlight the graphic's details and elevate the packaging's quality.
