Introduction: A hand exercise kit designed for the elderly with hand disorders. The target users of the product are people who have slight hand disorders due to normal age growth and patients in the later stage of hand rehabilitation treatment, mainly assisting users to exercise fine finger movements and hand-eye coordination training.
The design concept of the product is to start from the daily life of the elderly and choose weaving as the starting point, so that the elderly can exercise their finger joints in the weaving process, and add the corresponding rules of color and tone in the weaving, so that the colorful weaving results can play different melodies: the seven rows of weaving strips on the bottom plate represent the seven tones of do,re,mi,fa,so,la and si respectively, the different braided colors on each column represent different scales of tones. The length of the braided thread indicates the length of the tonal duration (sixteenth note, eighth note, etc.). When the woven base plate passes through the recognition area of the record player, the seven color recognition modules in the recognition area will extract the RGB value of the scanned color braided line and call up the music fragments stored in the SD card through the range of the analysis values. The multiple broadcast fragments are combined to form a complete music melody. Each bottom plate can weave a small piece of music, and several bottom plates can be combined to produce complete music. This is considering that the completion time of a bottom plate is 20-30 minutes, which is more suitable for the ability level and exercise needs of the elderly, and can enable multiple elderly people to cooperate to complete a piece of music, encourage each other in the process of weaving exercise, and obtain a higher sense of accomplishment. There is also a sample book for weaving music scores in the kit. The old man only needs to weave the book to complete the music. Old people who understand music theory and hope to be able to create music by themselves can weave according to the tone rule instruction book. Old people who do not understand music theory only need to weave different patterns according to their own color preferences. When they finish weaving, they will find that they can also make a nice melody. In the kit, there is a booklet for the elderly to carry out popular science on hand disorders, so that they can understand the causes and effects of the disease, and avoid panic caused by the unknown. It also explains the exercise movements and joints involved in the weaving process, so that users can more clearly understand the efficacy of exercise and increase the sense of accomplishment in use.
In the exploration in the early stage of design, I found that the existing hand exercise products are mainly medical products. Users give themselves the hint of "getting sick" before use, which often leads to resistance when contacting. Therefore, when designing the concept, I hope this design is more inclined to learn "toys" that can gain a sense of accomplishment and share with others than "therapeutic instruments". It is hoped that users will not only get a physical "cure" but also a spiritual "cure" in the process of use ".
