I have seen many wonderful design cases on Puxiang. com, and many colleagues have asked the same question in the comment area: "when this design landed, was there no problem with the mold?"
This is a very professional question. Because the biggest difference between industrial design and graphic design is that industrial design needs to be tested by the "physical world.
One border industrial design takes root in Shunde household appliance industry belt for six years, serving Midea, Philips, Westinghouse and other brands. We have summarized the 5 most easy to make the "drawing rollover" process problems, for the design of peer reference.
1. R angle and processing feasibility
Many designers pursue "extreme roundness" and make the R angle very small. But from the mold point of view, the inner R angle is less than 0.3mm can not be directly processed with a milling cutter, only EDM, cycle and cost doubled.
Professional advice: R angle of exterior surface ≥ 1mm, inner wall ≥ 0.5mm, bottom ≥ 0.3mm.
2. Wall thickness and shrinkage control
During the flow of plastic, the cooling rate of thick and thin areas is different-the thick areas shrink more and the surface appears concave. This is a problem that cannot be seen at all on the design drawings, but it can be seen at a glance when the samples are made.
Professional advice: control the wall thickness difference within ± 30%, check with 3D software thickness analysis tool.
3. Draft Angle and Demoulding Quality
The vertical wall is clean on the rendering, but injection molding requires a draft angle to release the mold. Bite-treated products require special attention-the greater the bite depth, the greater the draft angle required.
Professional advice: appearance surface ≥ 3 degrees, bite surface ≥ 5 degrees, inner wall ≥ 2 degrees.
4. The parting line is consistent with the appearance
The parting line is the physical boundary of the mold, which will not be displayed on the design drawing, but it must exist in kind. If the parting line crosses the main visual surface, it will destroy the integrity of the appearance.
Professional advice: In the first stage of structural design, the position of the parting line should be determined, with priority given to non-visual surfaces.
5. Seam matching and assembly accuracy
The shell fit clearance needs to be accurately designed according to the product size. Large size products due to shrinkage deformation, gap design needs to leave more margin.
Professional advice: small products 0.1-0.15mm, medium 0.15-0.25mm, large 0.25mm or more, 3D assembly section comparison check uniformity.
Conclusion
Puxiang Network often says that "good design should be able to land". The experience of industrial design in one environment is that the premise of good design landing is that the designer thinks of the mold when drawing.
These five problems are completely invisible on the renderings, but the mold is fully known as soon as it is opened. Solving them in the drawing stage is the basic skill of a professional design company.
