Microplastics generally refer to plastic fibers, fragments or particles with a diameter of less than 5mm. Microplastics in the environment have a wide range of sources and stable properties. They are ideal carriers for hydrophobic organic pollutants and heavy metals. Microplastics are easy to be eaten by plankton, fish and lower organisms, and are transferred and enriched between nutritional levels in the food web, which poses potential risks to food safety.
