Soon, service robots like the "Martian" will complete the tedious tasks of cleaning bathrooms and kitchens. Martian is a single-arm cleaning robot that can clean showers, bathtubs, sinks, floors and countertops from high to low. Unique tool ends or "hands" can be replaced immediately to meet specific cleaning needs, such as toilets. The cleaning fluid is stored on its base for easy contact with the robot arm. The three omnidirectional wheels can also turn sideways, allowing Martians to maneuver in a small space. Its slim profile helps meet camera and LIDAR positioning requirements.
Considering its purpose, we chose to give Martian a stylish and practical appearance, but we also wanted to give it a personality like a housekeeper on standby. Martian is an advanced study by SRI (Stanford Research Center) and Martian Robots to explore how to design these near-future robots.
