When we were doing the packaging design of O-Sitter pet robot, we burst out an idea, why not design the packaging carton into a cat's nest? When users disassemble the product, they add another layer of surprise, which is more in line with the environmental protection concept of recycling. Just do what you say! Considering the need to control the logistics size, directly refer to the cat nest shape of regular carton packaging, the internal volume is limited and the cat is difficult to move. Therefore, this packaging box is designed in the form of a heaven and earth cover. After the user gets it, he can stack the inner and outer two layers of paper boxes up and down, which can double the space on the original basis and become a luxury cat villa.
How can the paper boxes be stacked safely and firmly without affecting the cat's in-and-out activities? For this reason, we have thought of many ways, and finally decided that the outer canopy is the bottom, and the ground cover is buckled on the canopy. The natural size difference between the two allows the ground cover to be completely embedded inside the canopy. The upper ground cover is then supported by the top platform surface of the product liner.
Then we cut a carton prototype for the cat experience. The test found that for active Xiao Mao, the cat nest is completely unrestrained, and it is easy to top off the upper part of the carton and the cat nest falls apart. In order to weld the cat's nest roof firmly, we have considered many forms of reinforcement. Considering the difficulty and cost of assembly, we chose the simplest method, digging holes at the overlap of the upper and lower covers, buckling them with buttons, and making a total of two places before and after the cat's nest. Through this kind of buckle fixing and the tight matching of the upper and lower cover sizes, it is difficult to destroy any cat with great strength. In the end, we overcame the limitations of cost, technology and assembly, and let the kittens live in a new home!
