Today, I want to talk to you about hand-painted in industrial design (excluding transportation design). I remember when I was in college, I was still a hand-painted fanatic. Now that I have graduated for two years, I have some new understanding of hand-painted design. I will share it with you.

Today, the major of industrial design should have been renamed product design in most schools. The students admitted to this major are generally divided into two types, and the other is art students. I am also an art student, so today I will talk about hand-painting from the perspective of art students. As art students, most people have a few years or even more than ten years of art skills. Therefore, many people, including me, have relatively heavy artistic plots. In addition, design itself is inseparable from art or aesthetics. When we first entered this major, everyone would associate hand painting with painting. Then as an art student, he has a congenital sense of superiority. After all, the foundation of art is there. As an important examination subject for postgraduate entrance examination, hand-painting is also a very important examination subject in examination-oriented education, so many people attach great importance to hand-painting, but in this process of emphasis, the road of hand-painting is crooked-thinking that good painting is good hand-painting.

1. In my opinion, hand painting is a very important link in the design process, especially now designers mostly rely on excellent team cooperation ability to complete huge design tasks. Hand painting plays an important role in expression and communication. Simply put, express one's own ideas through hand painting, which has the effect of communicating with others. This communication method is quite simple and effective.

2. Hand drawing at the beginning of the design can also be used as a quick note. It allows you to quickly record your design ideas without being very specific. Maybe a few lines can clearly record your thoughts and ideas. It can of course be analyzed by hand drawing. Some feasibility is listed in a quick expression and analyzed logically. It may be more similar to mind maps. Why do you advocate hand-drawing instead of text here? Because graphics are more abstract, they will not solidify your thinking but will diverge your thoughts. And words will have certain thinking constraints. The best way is to use simplified vocabulary to express it graphically. Develop and spread in certain constraints.

3. For designers, the most obvious function of hand painting is modeling and deliberation. Hand-painted method can save time in the initial stage and easily filter out ideas. I believe many people like to draw sketches and deliberate on modeling before modeling. I won't say much about this.

Recently, I have done some household design, so I have more dealings with fabrics. So I looked at many cases of furniture designers. After personal experience, I found that there should be many ways of hand-painted expression. Because different hand-painted expressions have different effects, give a few examples.

The text is the sketches of some internationally renowned designers. We can find that their hand-painted tools are also quite diverse (colored lead, toner, watercolor, etc.). In my opinion, different expressions help to design a more intuitive experience in the sketch stage. It can also inspire more.


Finally, I would like to give a little advice to the graduating students-if you want to put hand-painted drawings in the portfolio, don't put copied drawings. if you want to put hand-painted drawings, you should put hand-painted drawings designed by yourself, because copying does not mean that the design is good and even less important to your design ability.
