This work is located in the core square of the 11th block of Jiading, Shanghai. It is no accident that we chose "pear" as the overall shape-Jiading has been rich in white pears and grapes since ancient times, and is a living specimen of Jiangnan orchard culture. A full pear is not only a symbol of local products, but also coincides with the homophonic meaning of "Li" and "Li", carrying people's praise for the past and future.
In terms of material and process, the work is made of stainless steel hollow forging, and the surface is integrated into the weaving texture of Jiading traditional bamboo weaving. We interweave and superimpose the patterned hollowing of grape vines, fruit strings and leaves with bamboo weave lines. From a distance, it is a complete pear-shaped volume. When we look closer, we find a whole orchard hidden under the skin. This double-layer structure of "shape and meaning" makes the sculpture have both the recognition of urban landmarks and the readability of local culture.
The sculpture has a built-in warm white light source, and the light passes through every hollowed-out place, projecting the grapevine shadow, bamboo texture and the words "eleven blocks" onto the ground of the front square together-the light and shadow flow with the sight like night breeze, like a never-ending open-air projection. During the day it is a cold silver modern sculpture, and at night it becomes the most gentle glow in the center of the square.
What this work hopes to convey is the dialogue between traditional crafts and contemporary life: the hand temperature of bamboo weaving and the memory of orchard wrap the spiritual core of modern life.
