On May 18, International Museum Day, the "2020 Asian Social Design Exhibition" opened at the Red Dot Design Museum!

The "2020 Asian Social Design Exhibition" is supported by the National Working Committee of the UNESCO China Sustainable Development Education (ESD) Project and the Office of the Leading Group for Cultural Reform and Development of Xiamen City. It is hosted by the Huli District Government of Xiamen City and Xiamen Media Group, Xiamen Huli District Culture and Tourism Bureau, Xiamen Red Dot Design Museum.

"2020 Asian Social Design Exhibition" is the first large-scale international social design theme exhibition in mainland China. Here, we not only bring 100 real social design cases from 20 countries and regions, but also fully present zero abandoned exhibitions, bringing you an immersive exhibition experience ~

What is social design?

Social design is a mode of action. By changing the mode of thinking and social coordination, it integrates management, culture, design, creativity, technology, business, communication and other professional knowledge from an interdisciplinary perspective to solve social problems and make society and the environment The operation is healthier and sustainable.

At the "2020 Asian Social Design Exhibition", these questions can be answered through case objects, text stories and videos. Through the exhibition, you will learn how domestic and foreign brands, public welfare organizations and governments can deal with the diverse problems of the current pluralistic society through design.

In terms of case selection, we vividly and intuitively show how design forces can solve social problems and create a better society from the perspectives of epidemic prevention and disaster prevention, circular economy, education diversification, care for vulnerable groups, and urban innovation in a global and diverse social context.

Exhibition Zero Abandoned
/Take practical actions as a proposal for the future world/

In order to present a more "social design" exhibition to the audience, the "2020 Asian Social Design Exhibition" has also added many social design concepts to the exhibition construction. A large reduction in the use of disposable consumables is the most intuitive and meaningful action.

Exhibition equipment recycled from past exhibitions or purchased from nearby second-hand markets, as well as recyclable recycled materials and reusable display items are used in all districts. Recycled waste wood boards and recycled cartons were transformed into display boards and exhibition stands respectively, and reusable and degradable curtains played the function of product introduction. "2020 Asian Social Design Exhibition" uses the exhibition itself to practice the concept of social design, and strives to achieve the goal of reusable and zero abandonment.

In the last area of the exhibition, a "act together" proposal wall is specially set up. Everyone is welcome to put forward their expectations for social design and proposals for the future world, so as to inject more innovative thinking into social design actions ~

In 2020, Xiamen Red Dot Design Museum launched the "2020 Social Design Action" trilogy, hoping to arouse the public's attention to social issues and promote the construction of an ecosystem of Chinese social design through three sub-actions: exhibitions, conferences, and co-creation.

Among them, the "2020 Social Design Co-creation Plan" was launched online in March. The activity received more than 2 or 320 applications from all over the world. Finally, more than 120 participants from various fields became the team members of this co-creation camp. Together with 7 professional instructors, they launched a design co-creation for more than 40 days on the theme of epidemic prevention and disaster prevention, the results will be exhibited at the "2020 Asian Social Design Exhibition" and promoted nationwide.

The theme of International Museum Day on May 18 this year is "diversity and tolerance". As one of the official activities of ICOM of the International Association of museums, the opening activity of this exhibition also reflects the same pursuit of Red Dot Design Museum in the field of design: we expect social design to be not only the work of designers, but also allow more people to participate in it, be more inclusive and shared, and finally realize its real social significance ~

About the Red Dot Design Museum
