Work Introduction:
[SHELLMET]]
SHELLMET is the world's first helmet made of scallop shells. Scallops are the most eaten shellfish in Japan and the most abandoned shellfish. In the village of Salufu, Hokkaido-home to the country's largest scallops-about 40,000 tons of shells are discarded off the coast. These shells emit a foul odor and their visceral residues produce heavy metals, which can cause soil pollution. In the face of this situation, our goal is to transform shells into new resources for the benefit of local communities. As a result, the use of materials containing recycled shells in the production of helmets can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 36% compared to ordinary plastics.
