A good product will open a new channel for users to adapt to the changes of the world. The 7th French INNODESIGN PRIZE Competition in 2020 is an international design competition of "Exploring Innovative Design and Leading Industry Boundaries" to explore how design can achieve multidisciplinary integration and cross-cutting design trends in diversified development. It has attracted widespread attention in major industries. It is only to redefine the good design of the current era and discover those good innovations that condense the emotions and trends of the times.
We saw a very innovative product in the list of industrial design winners of the seventh French INNODESIGN PRIZE International Innovation Design Competition in 2020. Today, we had the honor to interview Jia Xiaobu, the top-grade SCRAT 3D Printing Laboratory, the chief designer of this manual shaver. Let's invite Jia Xiaobu and everyone to talk about the design story behind this shaver.
Q: What new ideas have been given to you in the magic year of 2020 and the current epidemic?
A:2020 is a special year. The epidemic has disrupted our expectations for the future, but in any case it is the future we once imagined. I remember 20 years ago, I happened to be in primary school. The teacher asked us to draw a picture with the future as the topic. I painted high-rise buildings, air traffic planes, cars in the sea and all the imagination on the paper. However, after 20 years, I am no longer the teenager of that year, and the world is not so full of "sense of future" or even a trace of boredom. This should not be our 20 years.
Q: So, why did you choose the category of manual shaver for design?
A: In fact, there are many types of products around us that need to make new breakthroughs. Manual shavers are typical of such industries. It is difficult for users to have more choices in the market. However, the real user experience level is uneven, and the market share of manual shavers is continuously decreasing due to the squeeze of electric shavers. For example, I am a manual shaver user, but I don't have too many choices whether it is business trip or home use, so we are determined to make a different shaver to change this situation.
Q: Great product design. Can you talk about the source of inspiration?
A: In fact, we have designed several schemes, and the name of this scheme is BONE, which means bone. Strength and muscle are the representatives of men. As a male manual shaver, its initial inspiration comes from the interspersation of muscles and bones. The designer gives full play to the inherent shape beauty of creatures through abstraction and array of bone units. At the same time, the array of units and finger joints echo each other, the grip will also be more comfortable. The hollow-out handle design not only brings a brand-new experience of appearance, but also makes the product lighter and more comfortable. Moderate weight, feel in hand, but also do not feel heavy. Shaving easily by changing the angle of the wrist.
Q: Do you have any innovative considerations for the placement of inverted walls?
A: We believe that a good design must be unified in appearance and function. Its base can be placed on the desktop or hung upside down, because we have placed a group of magnets in the xy axis direction of the base, so that users can easily place it in daily use. The inverted placement is conducive to keeping the razor drainage dry and hygienic, it is a better choice to place the wall in the narrow environment of the toilet.
Q: What challenges did this product encounter in the design process?
A: Due to the hollow shape of the handle, the drop experiment was not done many times. We eliminated 80% of the self-developed materials and continuously upgraded them on the basis of the existing ductile materials. Each time we enlarged the cracks ten times. Add support, data slicing, light curing manufacturing, support separation, standing, baking, polishing, plating and dyeing, painting, transfer printing, production line screening good products, assembly. Each process must be completed one by one before the next steps can be carried out. As we all know, the 3D printing industry is currently in a period of both opportunities and challenges. On the one hand, the cost is high, and on the other hand, the printing yield is low and the accuracy is not high. But now we have solved these problems through our research and development, and started to apply them in batch products. This is a great attempt.
Q: What other innovations can you share with us about this product?
A: The innovation of the installation and use of the cutter head is also a design point of this design; the pitch angle of the cutter head is an important criterion to measure whether the manual shaver is easy to use. The cutter head is designed through the connector with the handle to make the whole The product is simpler and more practical, simplifying the assembly process of the cutter head while ensuring the use experience and safety of the cutter head, and greatly improving the production efficiency.
Q: What new 3D design products will SCRAT3D bring us next?
A: As we all know, Scrat) 3D Laboratory focuses on the innovation field of 3D printing products. For future product research and development plans, we may not only be limited to plastics, but also try metals. Different CMF choices will bring brand-new experiences to products, and at the same time, they are not limited to shoes, personal protection and other categories. We will set out for more challenging industries and strive to live up to expectations.
After winning the French INNO Design Award, the 3D printing shaver designed by the top grade SCRAT3D laboratory has successively won the Taiwan Golden Point Design Award, the Korean K-DESIGN Design Award, the CMF Design Award and so on.

That's amazing.
A little ugly
