The world's first Red Dot Design Museum was built in the Customs Union Coal Mine Industrial Zone in Essen, Germany. It was designed and renovated on the basis of the abandoned boiler room by Pritzker Architecture Prize winner Norman Forster (a well-known architectural designer such as Apple's headquarters building). The collection of more than 2,000 exhibits from 45 countries, and the award-winning works of the year are displayed here, which is a large-scale contemporary design exhibition hall in the world.

It was designed and remodeled by the Pritzker Architecture Prize winner Lord Norman Forster (a well-renowned architectural designer known for Apple's headquarters building) on the basis of the abandoned boiler house. It displays more than 2,000 works from about 45 nations. The latest Red Dot award-winning designs are showcased in this modern design exhibition space.
