The biological feedback rehabilitation robot hand system uses flexible pneumatic bionic muscles as a power source to help patients with stroke or hand dysfunction to restore hand sensitivity through pre-set training programs to prevent muscle wasting and atrophy.
XFT is concerned that there is still much room for improvement in existing products, so it plans to develop the system to expand the market layout of its rehabilitation product line and bring better product solutions to this segment.
The system consists of three modules: a drive pump that indicates exercise and treatment duration and powers a pneumatic threaded tube; a mirror bracelet worn on the healthy side of the arm; and a rehabilitation machine glove worn on the affected limb.
Xinfengtong uses innovative mirror training technology in the system. The mirror bracelet detects the EMG signal strength of the patient's limb in real time. When the signal reaches the preset threshold, it will trigger the rehabilitation machine glove to make a unified action with the mirror image of the healthy hand, dominating the affected limb to passively realize the flexion and extension movement of the limb, so as to gradually restore the function. This training method can promote the autonomous recovery of the brain of stroke patients and accelerate the rehabilitation process.

The IDC team is responsible for the overall optimization of the rehabilitation machine glove design and for creating a design-sensitive look for the entire system that conforms to the XFT family product design language.
Preliminary studies have found that good motion control of the affected limb is the key to the rehabilitation effect; and the wearability and comfort of the product can also improve the user satisfaction of the product. The team plans to upgrade the above elements for this product.

Rehabilitation machine gloves, how effective function and wearable balance?
Many patients have impaired hand dexterity, and to wear the product without the help of a caregiver, the gloves must be easy for the patient to wear with one hand.
The degree of wrapping of the glove on the palm is the most important for wearability, and the more open glove form is more friendly to one-handed wearing operation. This is the origin of the design idea that the palm area is designed to be open, and only the fingertip is reserved at the front end of the finger, with built-in wrist support and strap core design.
However, too little wrapping area will reduce the movement control of the affected limb and affect the rehabilitation effect. In order to find the optimal balance between the two, the team conducted a series of studies and tests during the design process.
Initially, the IDC team believed that the scope of product research should be expanded as much as possible, with extensive exposure to products such as sports gloves, cycling gloves, labor gloves, and even masks, in addition to similar products. Testing existing gloves on the market, evaluating their size, material, and wearability allowed the team to better understand the composition of the gloves, and quickly retrofit the off-the-shelf gloves to produce a number of preliminary prototypes for verifying new architectures and design ideas.
The prototype was subsequently used for internal user testing.
It is known from the user test that the wrist of the affected limb is also relatively weak, which increases the difficulty of rehabilitation training. Therefore, the wristband is included in the design considerations to add additional wrist support and improve the efficiency of rehabilitation training.

Based on various factors that balance wearability and treatment effectiveness, the team explored and tested various factors such as glove opening area, finger cot length, strap position, strap length and width, and the best binding method of strap and wristband, and obtained a final detailed design.
In order to fix the glove more firmly on the hand, a strap passing through the palm is added to the design to ensure that the inflatable threaded tube can effectively control the opening and closing of the patient's fingers, and better achieve the effect of grasping and releasing training.
The added support of the wrist allows the patient to focus more effectively on grip strength rehabilitation. After experimenting with different hard and soft materials, experimenting with different sizes and positions, the team defined the location of the support area, the coverage area, and the connection to the glove.
The material selection of gloves is considered from the perspectives of easy cleaning, material strength, comfort, visual appeal, integration with threaded pipes, and feasibility of production. Neoprene was finally selected as the glove material by the company.
The glove is in the form of a soft fabric with a hard support that is placed inside the back of the hand and extends to the wrist.

Threaded tube optimization, allowing full consideration of details to beat competitors
When it comes to the effectiveness of glove movement, it is inseparable from the threaded tube.
The competition research found that the existing product threaded pipe can not provide enough flexibility and mobility due to its large size. The team tried and tested different design solutions for its possible shape, structure, material and thickness in a rapid prototyping way, and verified that a round, one-piece, structure-intensive threaded tube can be stretched more effectively.
The connection between the threaded tube and the glove surface will image whether the threaded tube deviates from the finger sleeve after inflation and the aesthetics of the product. Originally planned is a form that can be customized and fully bonded to the surface of the glove, but from the point of view of manufacturing feasibility, this scheme is not cost-effective. IDC adjusted the design and integrated the proven bellows in the glove, and designed a better connection method to achieve a more refreshing and concise design.
The air pump dredging the air passage of the gas to the threaded pipe is also designed to be concealed and simple.

Stroke rehabilitation products can also be both sporty and elegant?
IDC has created a unified recognition for these three devices, and the product is also consistent in appearance with other products of Xinfengtong Medical.
Considering that the rehabilitation process may include grasping training on smooth objects, the finger pulp area is specially designed with a flat array of X-letters to increase friction.
The color of the whole system uses a unified color with different lightness and purity, combined with two neutral colors of white and gray, showing the high-tech sense of the product. A large number of stitch textures are added to the design with detailed highlights, enhancing the delight of the gloves.

The complete solution comes from a comprehensive understanding of rehabilitation training
The rehabilitation robotic system has six different training modes, including power-assisted exercises and resistance training to help strengthen muscles. The user can complete specific programs for hand full motion, fingertip grip training, and single finger training to promote overall and fine hand mobility.
This ergonomic glove is washable, durable and comfortable. Patients are offered a choice of small size, medium and large sizes. Patients can easily adjust the air pressure through the central control device to find the intensity that suits them.
