This project is to create two groups of theme sculptures for the waterscape of the front square of Hefei super-grade office building, as the two landscape nodes of the portal space, with "the rhythm of the wind" and "the beginning of the bud" as the core images, forming an artistic dialogue with one virtual and one real, one line and one side, reshaping the temperament of commercial public space, and balancing the rational order of architecture and the natural poetry of art.
The conceptual origin of the first sculpture lies in the wind. Wind is invisible; it reveals itself through lines. The overall design employs a stainless-steel linear grid system, with multiple curved surfaces twisting and rising upward in a staggered, flowing arrangement. The arrangement of hollowed-out structural members diminishes the sense of mass and solidity, lending the sculpture a transparent, breathable quality. Sunlight filters through the mesh, casting ever-shifting patterns of light and shadow on the water’s surface and the ground. As a gentle breeze brushes by, the eye follows the undulating red curves, as if tracing the spiraling path of the wind as it rises. The linear structure requires extremely high processing requirements. The radian and positioning of each elbow need to be accurately lofted to ensure the smooth and coherent surface, forming a highly recognizable visual focus on the open square, symbolizing the vitality of urban development rushing upward and free growth.
The second sculpture is inspired by a budding flower, symbolizing gestation, accumulation, and blossoming. The work is composed of multiple layers of gradient curved panels arranged in an orderly manner, with the overlapping sheets wrapping and converging to form a concise and elegant shape. The surface features an electroplating finish, with a refined, high-end metallic luster that produces dynamic reflections under natural daylight and the illuminated waterscape. The curvature’s transitions have been meticulously refined, ensuring that from any vantage point the silhouette remains smooth and full, with no harsh edges. The flower bud symbolizes the growth and vigorous bursting, which conforms to the spiritual core of office building enterprises gathering and gaining momentum to take off. It is introverted but contains strength, and forms image complementary with the wind theme sculpture.
Two sculptures are placed atop the water feature, with the water serving as a backdrop to enhance the reflection effect. The grid of the wind sculpture falls on the water, shaking with the ripples; the plated mirror texture of the flower bud sculpture reflects the sky and the building, making the sculpture, water and architecture integrated. The two form a strong contrast in the same front space: the former is the composition of lines, open, light and dynamic; The latter is the stack of surfaces, restrained, heavy and full of wrapping. One movement, one stillness; one looseness, one tightness—combining strength and gentleness.
The front plaza of a super‑grade A office building is not merely a public thoroughfare; it also serves as a showcase for corporate branding and urban aesthetics. The sculpture eschews ornate, exaggerated forms, drawing its imagery from nature and reinterpreting it through contemporary metalworking techniques. The wind symbolizes opportunity, flow, and openness; the flower bud represents accumulation, renewal, and blossoming. The two sets of imagery perfectly echo the essence of the business setting: riding the waves of the times and blossoming brilliantly after a period of steady accumulation.
Public art is integrated into commercial spaces, softening the coldness of hard-edged architecture and providing passersby with a meaningful place to pause and reflect. During the day, metal materials echo the building curtain wall and blend into the modern city interface. At night, waterscape lights set off the outline of the sculpture, light and shadow flow, and become the landmark night scene of the area. Using art as a medium, we infuse urban business spaces with the poetic essence of nature, creating a gateway landmark that combines visual impact, cultural significance, and a sense of refined luxury.
