This spiritual fortress is located in the European commercial project square of Baoan Central District, Shenzhen, as the landmark and guide structure of the core portal of the area. The design jumps out of the common square and plate-type conventional shapes of spiritual fortresses on the market, takes European-style church architecture as the creation motif, extracts iconic elements such as classic dome, vertical colonnade, carved hollow and so on, and reconstructs a cylindrical transparent tower to carry the cultural core of European-style architecture. At the same time, it realizes 360 ° full-view viewing and creates a strong visual focus.
The whole structure is a vertical cylinder structure, which is supported by a dark vertical keel frame, surrounded by a large area of golden hollow carved and letter modeling components in the middle, and closed at the top is the modeling of a carved church dome. Transparency and openwork are the core design elements of this project; solid, enclosed walls have been avoided to preserve visual permeability. An internal lighting system is integrated to achieve a dual effect: natural daylight during the day and nighttime illumination. During the day, the sun penetrates through the hollows from the outside and forms a flowing light spot on the ground and the components themselves. When people walk into the tower and look up, the light passes through layers of patterns and letters, and the fine golden light hovers and gathers along the barrel wall, finally falling to the top dome, creating a sacred sense of tranquility unique to the church space and completing a ritual experience of light and shadow.
Traditional spirit fortresses typically prioritize front-facing displays, while the sides and rear are given less emphasis. This scheme adopts a circular cylinder, without the distinction of primary and secondary facades. No matter which direction it approaches around the square, it can gain a complete and balanced visual experience and adapt to the flow line of people in the open square. The golden hollowed-out pattern continues the rhythm of European curly grass and classical decoration, and the letter elements are integrated into it, taking into account the artistic expression and project identification attributes. The dark frame is stable and restrained, the golden finish is exquisite and gorgeous, the color matching fits the European elegant temperament, and the surrounding European commercial street building facade and paving style are unified.
In the night mode, the built-in light source diffuses outward from the inside of the cylinder, and the light spills out through the hollow pattern. The whole fortress is like a luminous glazed tower, forming a soft and eye-catching halo on the square. While assuming the function of guiding, it becomes the node of urban landscape at night. Light and shadow is no longer just an additional effect, but a part of the sculpture itself. With the sunrise, sunset, cloudy and sunny changes, the shape of the light spot continues to change, so that this static structure has a dynamic perception.
In the context of the project, it is more than just a sign. The designer has distilled and condensed the spatial ethos of European church architecture into a modern bastion of the spirit. The classical dome symbolizes a sense of belonging and unity, its upward-reaching form represents ascension, while its openwork patterns of light and shadow evoke the passage of time and radiant illumination. Visitors walk through the process, from the outside to watch the overall outline, to step into the interior to look up at the sky, to complete the multi-level experience from far to near, from the outside to the inside.
In the bustling city interface of Bao'an Center, this dome light tower balances the identification, guidance and public art appeal required by commercial projects. It reinterprets classical architectural aesthetics through contemporary metal craftsmanship, using light to weave a dialogue between people and space, thereby becoming a distinctive spiritual symbol of this European-style district.
