"Kaiwen Looking at Design Series" One of the World's Design Symbols
Product Name: Collection Atollo Atoro Series
Brand: Oluce
Designer: Vico Magistretti
Over the years, Atolo has ceased to be a lamp, or rather, it is no longer just a lamp. It has become a myth, an icon: one of Italy's most famous world-wide design symbols, one of the few products that people identify and address with their own names.
It was designed by Vic Magistrati in 1977 and awarded the Copaso Doro Prize in 1979. It has since become part of the permanent collection of major design museums in the world and part of many family furniture that love and can choose things around them.
The secret of Atoro may lie in the geometric construction of its shape: the cone on the cylinder and the most important hemisphere. This is a luminous sculpture. Nothing can be removed, nothing can be added, nothing can be copied.
Vico Magistretti was born in Milan in 1920. In 1945, he graduated from the local school of architecture and began his career. His main fields of expertise are architecture, town planning and industrial design. His work was first recognized in 1948, when he won the Gran Premio Award at the 8th Milan Triennial. Since then, in his nearly 40 years of career, Magistretti has won numerous awards for works designed by different countries and industries. He has taught and held lectures in many architecture and design schools in Italy and abroad, covering Milan, New York, Paris and London. London is the city where he devotes the most effort. Since 1983, he has been an "Honorary Fellow" of the Royal Academy of Arts." He designs furniture, lamps and other works all over the world. Many museums exhibit his most important designs in his name and include his classic works in permanent collections. Magistretti has been committed to innovative experimental research on design, project culture and materials and space solutions, including shapes and functions that have not been restricted by rigorous styles for many years. He began providing designs for Cassina in 1960. Since then, his signature has appeared on countless products. Especially worth mentioning are the Maralunga sofa (1973) and Nuvola Rossa(1977) bookcases. To this day, these two products are still undisputed as the best-selling products in the world. Although others are vying to follow suit, this cannot shake the success of the original work in any way.
