Through a case in my book "Hand-painted Industrial Products and Innovative Design Expression", I introduce in detail how to design by hand-painted. [Product Design Preface] In the era of rapid development of computer software, when it comes to industrial design hand-drawing, many designers will draw some complete and clear hand-drawn renderings through two-dimensional and three-dimensional software and provide them to customers. Indirect neglect of the existence of early sketches, especially in the electronic product industry with fast product updates, rapid plagiarism and imitation have lost the originality of the design. But as a designer, the independence and originality of thinking are the driving force and source of your sustainable development in this industry. From this point of view, in addition to research, design sketches are particularly important in the early stage of design. Friends around me always mistakenly think that learning hand-painting is only to show off their skills, just to meet the needs of postgraduate entrance examination, and there is no need in the design. Therefore, I would like to introduce in detail what role hand-painting plays at this stage through a design case in this book "Industrial Products Hand-painting and Innovative Design Expression.

[Internal Stacking Diagram] The basic requirement of customers is to design a product with a brand-new appearance and good portability. Of course, corresponding internal stacking is also provided. In order to keep the customer information confidential, the following is roughly drawn in the form of sketch. The main components are heat dissipation fan, optical machine, PBC control panel, 12000 mA battery, rear interface, etc. In addition, a 5-inch LCD touch screen needs to be installed at the top of the body.

[Product Research] There are two ways of research, online and offline. Collect a large amount of product data of the same type online in the Internet mall; Offline in various major electronic shopping malls, more intuitive understanding of the projector's material technology, functions, if necessary, take photos as research records.

[Research and Analysis] I think to design a brand-new product form, we should start from the whole. Through the form of wireframe, we should simplify and refine the basic type of similar products with distinct appearance characteristics on the market, and then compare them to find out the differences between products.

[Basic Type] The basic type of nuts, polar meters and Mingji adopts the form of round and square rounded corners. This design makes the product more concise. The appearance of the two series of Codees products adopts a half-package design method, and the continuity of its appearance further improves the identification of the product in the industry. The appearance of Licai Yuntou C1 is a special-shaped modeling feature, which may be to increase the recognition of the product. Of course, this may also be the result of compromise with the internal structure. Through the comparative analysis of the basic types of products, the simpler the basic types of products, the more visually durable they are.
The product definition is also the product direction, so through the above research and analysis, it further provides guiding factors for the following design to avoid conflicts with the product design style on the market! In addition to conforming to the basic functions of projection, the more important thing is to improve the recognition and appreciation of the product by changing the basic type of the product.

[Intention Map] Can the owl's eyes be connected with the projector? Does the cartoon form provide different visual intentions?

[Intention Map] If the front face design of a sports car is combined with projection, whether it breaks through the existing product form, and so on, there are still many ideas in my mind.

[Sketch Stage] Conceptual sketches are also called conceptual sketches. Here, I use bionic design to draw out the element characteristics of animals and plants with pencils. At this stage, the lines can be selected at will and useful design points can be extracted. At this stage, the most important thing is to think about what kind of product he should be and what kind of "state" he should be in the environment ". Here I think that the projector is used most of the time at night, which reminds me of what animals are at night. With this chain, I think of words such as owls and midnight elves at night.

[Sketch Stage] An understanding sketch is the process of transforming the previous conceptual sketch into an understanding sketch. It is the process of transforming concepts into visual products. This process needs to consider the entry point of the design. In addition to the basic type, the micro projector mainly diverges the sketch through a two-dimensional view, and diverges different product forms through the drawing of the main view. The most attractive thing in modeling is undoubtedly the front view, that is, the front face with an optical machine. Because of the need for heat dissipation, the front face must be provided with heat dissipation holes. Then the positional relationship between the heat dissipation holes and the optical machine and how to generate contact is the focus of this stage.

[Sketch Stage] An understanding sketch that converts 2D views to 3D views.

[Structural Sketch] This stage is the stage of transforming a two-dimensional sketch into a three-dimensional sketch by considering the internal structure, size ratio, heat dissipation holes, display screen and other factors in the design scheme, making the whole sketch scheme closer to the actual product.
Scheme 1: The design is inspired by stacked pages, with neat upper and lower covers wrapped in layers of heat dissipation holes. In the distance, a book is placed on the desktop.

Scheme 2: The design is inspired by the robot's head shape. The fully brushed metal shell is matched with black plastic accessories to enhance the visual sense of the product.

In the third plan, the design inspiration comes from the character elements in the machine mobilization. Incorporating its cute eyes into the design will undoubtedly make the whole product exude a sense of interest.

Scheme 4, mainly considering the process, adopts the overall all-metal profile design, the functional interface is hidden inside the metal shell, and can be opened when in use, highlighting the overall feeling of the product.

Scheme 5, inspired by the combination of the eyes of the owl and the modeling elements of the front face of the car, adopts a streamlined design and modeling style, which runs through the whole product design.

Scheme 6 is inspired by the modeling elements of frogs, and the front face features of their smiling faces give people pleasant visual experience.

[Final Effect Sketch] The final selection is sketch scheme 5. The main reason is that the basic type adopts a round, full and angular arc design, which is concise and distinguishes from the boring and square design of the existing products.
(1) Front face design: two forms of design of point and line are considered. Due to the small volume of the product itself, the most important heat dissipation area is located on the front face. In order to better heat dissipation rate, lines with strong rhythm are adopted to run through the whole front face, and the heat dissipation hole and lens are integrated.

(2) Side heat dissipation holes: Considering the simplicity of the overall appearance and the feasibility of the process, the regular arrangement is carried out in the form of dots.

(3) Final effect sketch: Through the previous consideration of the overall shape and details, this stage needs to communicate with the structural engineer in detail, integrate the size ratio, process requirements and functional configuration of the product into it, and finally deepen the reliable scheme sketch.

[Design Modeling Stage] The modeling stage requires the designer to use familiar 3D software to convert the sketch scheme into a three-dimensional model. At this stage, we not only consider whether the appearance is good or not, but also need to solve and achieve unity between the internal structure and the appearance design. It is necessary to have a comprehensive communication with structural engineers, considering the appearance of structural mold, assembly and other issues to reduce design errors.

[Design Effect Drawing Proposal Stage] In the design effect drawing proposal stage, the material, function, color matching and design instructions of the product need to be considered, and submitted to the customer in the form of PPT. In addition to the appearance effect diagram can show your design, you also need to match the appropriate text to explain your design inspiration.

[Design Description] The overall appearance design is introverted without losing publicity, explaining the perfect presentation of the three design elements of line, surface and body in the product. The details are just right, pure and elegant like water droplets, showing the combination of softness and beauty, and the unity of spirit and movement. It is also like the extension of cell ecology, forming a form similar to the "infinite" symbol, implying that the product function is like opening a magical new world, with many stars and endless fun. The introverted and restrained design technique is displayed incisively and vividly in this product.

[Appearance board stage] The function of appearance board is to preliminarily verify the rationality of appearance shape, size and process assembly. Because it is visible and can be touched, it can more intuitively display the designer's creativity in the form of physical objects, so it is an indispensable and important link in the product appearance design stage.

[Design structure stage] After the appearance is confirmed, the structural engineer uses the knowledge of processing technology and plastic injection molding to reasonably design the internal structure. At this stage, more time is needed to communicate with designers and customers in detail, considering factors such as process cost, appearance and structure selection, function realization, mold production, etc., to optimize these elements, and finally need to make Structural hand boards, assembled into prototypes for verification, have reached the feasibility of mass production.
