I used to insist that a good design doesn't rely on storytelling. However, since the award of this project, I have realized that a good design tells not the story of this design, but the story of the designer when designing the work.
This design only took two weeks from sketch to landing, but I saw the sinister society and human heart in order to vote for this work. I have often wondered how many excellent designs we could witness without the interference of human sophistication and interests. Just because of a little conflict of interest, you can destroy a good design and replace it with one that is beneficial to you.
This design was made in the second semester of my junior year. In one competition, the school competition was brushed off, but in another competition (there was no school competition in this competition), I won the second place in the provincial award. At the beginning of the school competition, I learned that I was brushed off. I felt that I was not worthy to do this job. I couldn't pass the school competition. What else did I learn about product design...
Not to mention, let's talk about this design.
Three ring frame as the bottom of the router design, the middle of the ship type as the main part of the router. The frame and the main body are connected through 16 radial antennas to ensure that the signal is delivered without dead corners. The light band entrained in the middle of the frame can show the strength of the net speed. The LCD display of the middle frame can display the network speed and other status in real time. The whole is indeed cool enough, and the idea is advanced enough to attract attention. It is true that there are not many designers designing routers now. Secondly, I would like to make a few humble opinions: 1. The position of the middle terminal needs to have a certain thickness. How to connect with the PCB? Power supply board? The position here is obviously not enough. 2. We have also thought about the idea of loop antenna before, but how to install the antenna board when it is realized? At the same time, it will also lead to extremely high cost. 3. The current market positioning of the router is rather awkward. Consumers want it to hide more, hoping that it will cover WIFI all the time without dead corners, but they do not need to see it, except for some geek groups. 4. Pricing problem. At present, the price generally acceptable to consumers is concentrated in hundreds of prices, even if WIFI7, how to match such classification and cost, except for works of art.
1. The current design scheme is only a prototype. If it falls to the ground, it needs to be detailed. I know little about the internal structure of the router, and many important components have not reserved positions because of my ignorance. However, if landing is required, I will arrange a reasonable placement and connection scheme for these components.
2. I checked the appearance of the router antenna board. This is indeed different from my design, but it is not very big. My original intention was to use the frame connected with the main body and the ring frame as the place where the antenna is placed. There are 16 in total. The cost will be very high, but this is only my course work. I didn't think too much about it at the beginning... This is my problem. I should consider the cost before making products in the future.
3. The original intention of my design is to make the router similar to the form of art, but it will not lack the function of a router itself. I think good design is to make people feel pleasing to the eye in addition to the functions that this product should have. I want my work to be displayed in a prominent place, not how to hide it.
4. Cost performance is a very important attribute of a product. If the body is integrally formed by CNC, the cost will soar to an astronomical figure. However, if the ABS material is sprayed with a layer of metallic paint, the cost is astonishingly low. So the design as a piece of my course work, I did not consider the cost of the design appearance. If the design will be used as a landing project, I will give a reasonable price that everyone can accept.
