Blood irradiators are used to irradiate bagged blood and blood products in blood stations and hospitals to inactivate lymphocytes in blood products. There are lymphocytes in the human blood. When this kind of blood or blood component containing a large number of immunologically active lymphocytes is input into the body of immunocompromised patients, it will cause "blood transfusion-related graft-versus-host disease" (TA-GVHD) Occurrence, the degree can lead to the death of the patient.

Irradiation of blood or blood products can effectively inactivate T lymphocytes with immune activity in blood. Infusion of blood or blood components irradiated by radiation can effectively prevent the occurrence of TA-GVHD and make blood transfusion safer.

Traditional blood irradiators need to do a lot of lead protection, and heavy weight, equipment environmental impact assessment, radioactive source approval, transportation and daily management maintenance and recovery of radioactive source procedures are complex and costly.

The equipment does not contain radioisotopes, does not require external shielding, and does not require environmental impact assessment.
