Located in this place in the old city of Seoul, there are many old printing factories and dilapidated buildings gathered along the alleys. We want to be able to respect the history and time here. So we remodeled a 70-year-old building. The old façade is patchwork of fragmented prefabricated tiles in a mosaic pattern, and the small windows are widened and arched frames are added to create a soft visual effect. The interior floor of the cafe is paved with mosaic-patterned stone, so that the external image naturally continues to the interior. This image is re-presented through a mirror installed on the front of the bar, allowing customers who taste coffee inside the building to focus more on the current experience.
The exterior windows use translucent glass tile material to reduce visual contact between interior patrons and exterior pedestrians. This allows customers more freedom to focus on the scenery of the old town. In addition, we installed a heavy door made of old elm wood and made chairs from wood that used to be railway sleepers, telling the story of how the past and the old coexist in harmony with the present. Seoul is a rapidly changing and developing modern metropolis, so the history and scenery of the city are always forgotten too quickly. Through this cafe, we hope to make people remember the scenery of the city and show local residents and customers how these landscapes can continue their beauty and value in the new era.
