The clients are a couple in their 40's with elementary school children. There are train tracks north of the lot, so the clients requested soundproofing and a visual barrier. If we choose to enclose the space, the architecture tends to take on a heavier image. So we built our concept around origami, the long-loved art in Japan through which a single piece of paper can transform into anything and gently enfold a space. We planned a courtyard that gathers light at the center of the building and wrapped it in white origami to deal with the darkness caused by the enclosed space.
