The IDC team in the UK and the National Physical Laboratory have collaborated to design and develop a thermal imaging device Thermology Health for patient foot temperature mapping in the field of diabetes.
As a niche segment, such products are not popular in the market, and existing products are usually implemented by a simple thermometer with poor reliability. The product designed by IDC in the UK not only meets the requirements of complete foot temperature mapping, but also improves its accuracy by more than ten times compared with existing products.
The IDC team supports enterprises to efficiently complete the whole process from conceptual design to production-oriented design refinement within 5 months, greatly reducing the time to market.
The company has developed a world-leading thermal imaging device in the field of clinical temperature monitoring. The product is designed to identify the early symptoms of diabetic foot ulcers. Due to the loss of sensation and impaired mobility in diabetic patients, the damage to their feet is easily overlooked, leading to infection, ulceration and eventual amputation.
In the UK alone, an average of 20-30 people require amputations every day, costing the NHS an estimated £ 1.1 billion a year (to support the associated publicly funded health care). It is clear that this issue poses a major social and economic challenge.
The corporate team was able to achieve product mapping accuracy well beyond the industry level, and they invited the UK IDC team to design and develop the remaining elements to support the launch and launch of the product.
IDC UK supported the design and development of products, accelerated the process of Thermology Health products entering production, and developed CE and UKCA certified products in just five months.
Building on some of the initial prototyping work already done by the National Physical Laboratory, the IDC team advanced industrial design, usability design and GUI design, mechanical and electrical solution generation, production-oriented design, software design, prototyping and full certification.
Finally delivered a product that is easy to use and very precise.
"The project leveraged all the core competencies of the IDC team in the UK, requiring close collaboration between structural, electronics, software engineers and industrial designers, as well as rapid prototyping to deliver CE and UKCA certified equipment within five months. I am immensely proud of the team and the project work they delivered in a seemingly impossible time frame."
-- Michal Uhman, Senior Engineer, IDC Project Manager
With the significant improvement in the measurement accuracy of this product, the challenge for IDC UK is to design and implement all the necessary electronic hardware and software to achieve this goal.
In close communication with customers to understand the interaction needs of clinical products, we also led the graphical user interface design to provide clinicians with an intuitive user experience and fast and simple temperature measurement.
The product received positive feedback from clinicians.
