His winning work is the next generation conjecture of this-Harman Catton Aura speaker.

A conceptual design once provided for a studio in Harman, titled Aura's Next Generation. Aura is a better Bluetooth speaker sold by Harman on the market. Its transparent glass cover and breathing atmosphere light that moves with music are unique among the competing products. It is like a work of art. I like this speaker very much, so I also think about what it should be like to design the next generation for Aura. (Designer's Note: This concept is not officially released by Harman, but is only a personal creativity)

After analyzing Harman's family products, I chose to retain its excellent family genes, such as the ring metal CD pattern of the transparent glass outer cover, and the new possibility of interactive lighting.

Nowadays, smart speakers are becoming more and more popular, and various voice assistants are emerging one after another. People have to process all kinds of information everyday, some of which can be done by voice assistants, while others cannot.

If you only use listening, the brain will respond more slowly to the information you hear, and the efficiency will naturally decrease. However, if you see visual information while hearing it, the brain will receive it faster and more comfortable. How to visualize information? If the LCD screen is not transparent, it will lose the aura of the speaker itself. So, what about stereo projection?

The internal hidden projection lamp can project information onto the central transparent glass plate, and the types of information can be customized on the application APP, such as weather, schedule, etc. While talking to you, I will show you all the information you want. When you are away, it will still make a work of art there quietly.

In addition to daily information, it can also become a party elf when you have a party. Create an atmosphere for you.

At present, there are more and more young people living alone. At this time, they need a companion who can speak and have aura. If you imagine, it can also become an intelligent electronic pet, like a jellyfish swimming in the air, accompanying you.

Hello everyone, I am Max, an industrial designer.
I like minimalism and hope to do the most essential things with the simplest and purest design.

Elephant: What opportunity did you get in touch with industrial design? Talk to us about the experience.

Max: Because I like painting since I was a child, and I look forward to those who can create cool and beautiful things at any time, but I didn't know much about the industrial design industry at that time. I misstated the major of mechanical design and manufacturing when I was in school. Later, I realized that industrial design was what I wanted to do, so I applied for a change of major.

Because I changed my major relatively late, I had to learn a lot of things by myself. Most of the time I spent in the library, reading some magazines and books about hand-drawing, design theory and all kinds of world design. The books I browsed at that time also had a certain impact on some of my later design concepts.


Xiao Xiang: Under what opportunity was this smart speaker designed to win the 8 3rd TOP Gold Award?

Max: What I am currently engaged in is mainly the design of smart home IoT, and I have a certain understanding of the user needs in this area. I also often think about how smart a smart speaker will be and what pain points it can solve for users.

Most of the users who like Aura speakers are young people who pursue the quality of life in literature and art. If they can grasp the hearts of these users, they should make the products they want. Although it is a conceptual design, there are still many things to consider, and maybe different things will come out.


Xiao Xiang: Have you encountered any difficulties in your career as a designer? How to resolve it?

Max: In fact, many designers will be confused when they step into this field, at least I am. At the beginning of graduation, most people chose to change careers, and few people stayed to do design.

Design is originally a very broad category, divided into many directions, and each direction is different due to the difference of each industry field, so when making future career plans, there is often confusion, which kind of design should be done, and what the future of design will look like. In addition, in the domestic environment where the design atmosphere is not strong, many designers have lost confidence.

My personal career planning has undergone several changes in just a few years, and it is inevitable that there will be confusion, but as long as you really like this industry, even if you take more detours, I think it is worth it. Make a big goal unchanged, adjust your mentality in time, and one day you will realize what you want to do and your personal opinion. Moreover, with more and more attention paid to the design field in China, we can still have confidence in the future.


Xiao Xiang: How do you collect inspiration when you conceive a product?

Max: I think you should always keep a habit of collecting and recording good ideas. If you have a good idea, you should record it in time, no matter what form it takes. When you see a good design or picture on the Internet or exhibition, what can inspire you can be saved immediately, and a valuable database will be formed slowly. When you think about a design, you may have good inspiration.


Xiao Xiang: Can you finally give some suggestions to the graduating designers?

Max: Not a suggestion, just some insights from people who have come before. Be sure to read more and browse more excellent design works or articles at home and abroad. Only by broadening your horizons can you keep up with the design feeling. Slowly, you will also absorb the essence from it to form your own style.

After all, what I learned and saw in school is only the foundation, which is relatively closed. The real nourishment can only be obtained in the actual combat outside. There is also, always keep the mentality of learning, software skills these are necessary, not taboo imitation, but must learn useful things in imitation.

The last point is to make a good career plan and know what you want. Only in this way can you have a direction to work hard and correct it in time even if you take a detour. Design in pain but happiness!
