The queen is here! Today is Queen's Day. As the representative of the Queen, what is the chair that Queen Elizabeth II has sat on?
At London Fashion Week in February 18, it was a feast of clothing, but the seat of Queen Elizabeth II, who participated in London fashion for the first time, surprised us as designers. This is the "Louis Ghost Chair". This is a very classic chair, which has an important position in the history of furniture design. This chair, just like its name, can be used in various spaces as flexibly as a ghost. The reason why the Queen was able to use this chair at London Fashion Week is actually inextricably linked to the "aristocratic blood" of this chair.
At that time, Louis XVI and Queen Mary on the other side of the English Channel were very interested in ancient Greek and Roman design. During their rule, they tried their best to promote various fashionable architectural and interior design elements.
This period is quite unique in the history of French furniture design. It is not bound by tradition and is very free. It maintains its own unique style and is not affected by other styles. This style is called "Louis XVI style". During this time, the prototype of the ghost chair-Louis XVI Chair was born. The "Louis Ghost Chair" is a tribute to this chair, using modern design techniques and craftsmanship to give a new interpretation of this special chair.
Louis Ghost Chair was born in 2002 and was designed by French genius designer Philippe Starck for the famous Italian furniture brand Kartell. In 2000, Kartell just produced the world's first fully transparent chair La Marie. Louis Ghost Chair is the second attempt. However, this time, minimalism no longer occupies the first place. The shape of this chair is derived from the famous Baroque seat style of Louis XV in France, but the material is made of the fashionable polycarbonate (Polycarbonate). For Kartell, putting this design into production is a real technical challenge. The two details of the round medal style chair back and armrest are both technical bottlenecks that are difficult to break through. In the end, the chair was formed once using a single mold injected with polycarbonate, without a joint from head to toe.
Stark described his design in this way when he released it: "In fact, the ghost chair is his own designer, because it has the shadow of the French Louis XV furniture style, which is a kind of image. Although you are not sure what it is, everyone will feel familiar when they see it. Its transparent material is even more magical. When you pay attention to it, it is there. No matter what style of room you put it in, it will not become an eye-catching item." The Louis ghost chair is always in a state of looming and dying. This also set off a "transparent revolution" in the first decade of the 21st century, integrating completely transparent and minimalist design into the home space, allowing transparency to emit unique magic.
A classic chair with such unique charm and legend, even as a queen, will love it.
