~Bonjour, tout le monde ~
E64 PERFORMANCE is the latest electric booster road car released by Italy's top bicycle brand plum blossom. The author saw this car for the first time in March and was very impressed at that time. As a research and development engineer who focuses on the field of electric bicycles (product designers can also say), all the high-end electric bicycles I have seen have adopted a central motor without exception, but this time E64, a brand-name high-end car, has used a rear motor, which really makes me shine at the moment. Of course, the reason why I am impressed is not what new technology E64 uses, but the same design layout that I am now familiar with and relatively approved: rear motor lower tube battery (ha, ha, ha). Let's enjoy this interesting E64.
(Let's put a picture first to let everyone know what the current mainstream electric power-assisted highway car looks like.) This is a Cannondale electric power-assisted highway car. It obviously adopts the layout of the middle-mounted motor and the lower tube battery. The huge middle-mounted motor and the lower tube make people judge at the first sight that this is an electric-powered bicycle.
This is today's main character: E64 PERFORMANCE. Looking from the side, with the flywheel covering the motor, it is almost difficult to find that this is an electrically powered bicycle. In addition to the above picture honestly, this article will mainly describe two technical points: 1.E64's electric power layout. 2. Plum Blossom's ancestral takeover technology.
First, the picture above
E64 is based on plum blossom's flagship road car C64. The Colnago uses a 250w motor. It can hardly be seen as an electric bicycle with a weight of only 12kg.
Technical point 1: Electric power layout.
The layout of E64 motor, battery and controller can be clearly seen from the picture. The motor as the power output replaces the back drum on the bicycle, the battery and controller are hidden in the lower tube, the control switch is arranged at the front of the upper tube, and the external battery can be placed at the kettle frame (this is for riding The long distance is very practical for riders).
The battery under the rear motor mentioned above is a kind of excellent layout that I recognize, mainly because of the following three points: 1. Appearance, today's domestic motor can already achieve both small size and sufficient power, coupled with the built-in battery, it will not greatly change the excellent and mature shape and pneumatic layout of traditional sports bicycles (the picture shows the effect of installing 11~32T mountain bike flywheel on the rear motor on the hand, it can be seen that the diameter of the motor is smaller than the 32T flywheel).
2. Cost. Cost is basically a big problem that R & D, sales and investors can never avoid. Compared with the center motor, the rear motor can be said to be more expensive. Moreover, the accessory system, assembly cost, after-sales service, etc. and the rear motor all have inherent advantages.
3. Excellent comprehensive performance. In our usual tests, we found that the current rear motor technology can already make the power output fast, accurate and stable when assisting (of course, I think it is not as good as the middle motor, after all, the tooth plate is directly connected to the motor, which is an inherent advantage). moreover, the layout of the motor and the battery also puts the center of gravity of the whole vehicle in a reasonable position. for non-competitive riding such as commuting, riding, pulling, rear-mounted motor technology can provide a comfortable and sufficient riding experience (of course, it is based on the premise of good motor batteries and controllers, etc.), so I personally think it is reasonable for plum blossom to use this layout on road cars. However, for mountain bikes, which often jump, the rear motor is basically out of the question.
The accessory marked by number 1 should be the booster of E64. After all, the traditional booster mounted on five-way cannot be used with an integrated dental tray. One thing I want to say is that the design of the frame on the perspective view seems to be different from that of the real car. After reading the information on my hand several times, I still can't figure out how the battery of the car was installed and taken out. I only hope I can look at the real car and study it.
The luminous circle in the picture is the adjustment switch of E64-iWOC control button. The driver can decide whether to turn on the electric assist and how much power to turn on. Lights of different colors indicate the amount of electricity. Perhaps for simplicity, the car is not equipped with a display screen.
Technical point 2: Colnago the ancestral intubation process, this is completely digression. After all, E64 does not use this process, only retains the appearance.
When I first learned about the plum blossom takeover process, I still felt quite novel. The Carbon Lug process, including plum blossom, was established before I was born (I was born in the 90 s). For me who was used to ordinary welding process and mold opening frame, when I first saw this process, my heart was "Wow ~ and this kind of operation?".
This ancestral process of plum blossom is a completely standard Carbon Lug, that is, cannula. The prefabricated pipe is cut to an appropriate length, and then nested and bonded with a larger diameter preformed joint. The earliest carbon frame was made of carbon tube metal LUG, gradually transitioning to carbon LUG, and then the current mainstream split-piece integrated molding.
The picture above shows a Carbon Lug. Under the background that the current takeover process is no longer popular in racing cars, the COLNAGO seems to be stuck in the old-fashioned stereotypes, and they are being complained about. Indeed, there is no production car in the competition field, which uses the technology of decades ago like plum blossom.
Next, let's enjoy Colnago other excellent products ~ the picture shows E64's brother C64

In 2012, Plum Blossom used disc brakes on racing road cars.
This issue of the introduction of the plum blossom E64 electric power-assisted road car has arrived here first. If you like this article, please leave a compliment.
