2010

Around 2010, I had an idea to make a simple modular furniture that can be combined in different ways to adapt to different living space needs.

I looked for the answer from various basic geometric shapes, and tried to achieve it with the simplest processing method. After exploring the combination of various forms, I also considered that the fusion was useful. After the two original designs were interesting, the triangle The basic shape of the triangle is basically determined, and the stability of the triangle itself and the complementary shape of the interlocking shape can perfectly present some preliminary design forms.

After the concept was confirmed, I began to do fine processing in the computer and explore more modular possibilities.

In the computer renderings, the interesting practical combination of triangle structure has clearly presented the aesthetic feeling of design.

I started trying to combine them in different ways, but soon I realized that it was difficult to think further without touching the physical model. I decided to print the miniature model in 3D so that I could explore the modular design more realistically. Possibility.

I have to say that this is the most critical link in the entire design process. During the exploration process, I found a more interesting way to put them together.

This is hard to imagine in the virtual world, because triangles can show some X forms in the three-dimensional space, and at the same time have the characteristics of modular addition. I also tentatively set the concept name as X-Plus.

Even it can be used as a stand for my Lumia phone. This form of support is not conceivable in front of the computer screen.

2011

Why not make a big one, try it in real life, maybe you can find more, so I made two real-size X-plus in the model room.

The first sample is a fixed makeup photo in Malibu Beach, California.

Being curious about how users use it, I took X-plus to a friend's house and asked her to try it, but didn't tell her what it was. My purpose was to know how people would use it in real life.

Of course she started at the table!

As a stool, it is also very reasonable.

This really exceeded my expectation, and soon I realized because I didn't define the function.

People are easily immersed in their imagination when using X-plus. I was inspired by my friends. I began to imagine that people would use X-plus in many creative ways.

I am very confident in my findings, so I submitted the design to the Red Dot Design Award, and X-plus won the award in 2011.

After winning the design award, X-plus received some attention and was selected to display in Milan satellite. I need to make more samples to fill the booth.

2012

After Milan Design Week, X-plus was invited to attend ICFF in new york. Fortunately, I won the ICFF Studio Award and a free booth.

In 2012, Elle DECO of France called me. They had a 25th anniversary in that year. They wanted to choose 30 iconic designs to celebrate this special event.

X-plus was honored to be selected, but after this peak, everything began to slow down... Until 2016

2016-2017

Suddenly one day, I received an email from Europe asking about the X-plus and mentioning the furniture brand Rochburg.

As a designer who was mainly engaged in the science and technology industry at that time, he had no idea what kind of brand it was. Later, he realized that it was a brand that many furniture designers dreamed of cooperating with. Suddenly, he felt that the quiet period of many years seemed to have attracted dawn.

After many times of communication, because to meet the combination of perfect docking tolerance, there is a great challenge to the actual process, suddenly feel that this may be another brush with furniture design, and then after a year of silence, Luo sent an email again, let me confirm whether the samples meet my requirements and inform me that their factory in Italy has made ideal tolerance and quality after one year, I replied: Perfect!

So far, Rochburg confirmed the adoption of X-Plus as a new product in autumn and winter 2018, and officially changed its name to Euclide (Euclid)

Euclide officially landed on the market in the third quarter of 2018 and provided users with more than 100 color choices, which was a very special experience in my whole design journey.

Compared with other designs, I have been in my career. From the beginning of the idea, it finally appeared quietly in the store. In the life of a designer, it experienced 7 years. During the 7 years, there were ups and downs, won the design award, invited to participate in the exhibition, then entered a long period of silence, and finally in the store of Rochburg in Hollywood. This is the Euclide design story, real and long, there have been highlights and waits, and finally I was lucky enough to see him break his cocoon into a butterfly.
