Children's Growing Dining Chair | Concept Design

A group of children's dining chair concept design scheme, trying to find a balance between safety, growth and home aesthetics.

Design Background

The use cycle of the children's dining chair is very short (6 months -3 years old), but in the past two years, it is one of the most frequently used furniture for babies every day. The goal of the design is to make this "phased product" not only meet the functional requirements, but also integrate into the modern home environment, so as not to lose it when it is used up.

Four design directions

Section A is an orange-yellow soft bag with an encircling structure, which is suitable for small apartments and emphasizes the sense of package and security. Section B is a log wind with adjustable pedal, suitable for Japanese or Nordic style home, the material is more natural. C takes the minimalist pure white route, suspended base, modern simplicity is strong. D is a high chair with a removable plate, with the adult table as high, convenient for families to eat together.

Key Design Points

In terms of ergonomics, the seat height matches the adult dining table, the distance from the dinner plate to the seat surface is adjustable to adapt to the baby's growth, and the foot pedal is also adjustable to avoid hanging in the air.

The five-point safety belt is used for safety. The buckle is hidden under the dinner plate and the baby cannot open it by himself. The center of gravity of the chassis is designed to lean forward 15 degrees without overturning, and all corners are treated with R angle without sharp edges.

The growth is a detachable structure-after removing the dinner plate and guardrail, the dining chair can continue to be used as a low stool. Cushion can be removed and washed, the material is stain-resistant, and a wet cloth is wiped clean.

CMF strategy is to use white PP plastic as the main body, which is safe, non-toxic and easy to clean. Waterproof PU leather is used for soft bags, and milk stains and rice stains are well treated. The metal parts are made of stainless steel or aluminum alloy, and the antirust structure is stable.

Modeling difficulties

The plugging and unplugging structure of the dinner plate and the seat should not only be tightly tightened to ensure safety, but also be easy for parents to operate with one hand. The folding mechanism should be hidden, and the volume should be small after being stowed, and there should be no gap to clamp hands after being unfolded. Cushion surface to fit the baby's body, but can not limit the activities.
