A sound calibrator appearance
An acoustic calibrator is a device that, when coupled to a microphone of a specified type and configuration (e. g., with or without a protective grating), produces one or more known sound pressure levels at one or more specified frequencies. The sound pressure level produced by an acoustic calibrator is related to environmental conditions such as air pressure, air temperature and relative humidity.
There are two main uses for an acoustic calibrator:
1. Measure the sound pressure sensitivity of the microphone of the specified type;
2. Check or adjust the overall sensitivity of the acoustic measuring device or system.
