When we design products, we always imagine how to make users more convenient and comfortable. If we don't have a more in-depth scene experience, imagination alone, sometimes the results are often not so satisfactory.
Sometimes, the innovations put forward by our designers when designing products are not necessarily practical in some occasions, because the harsh degree of some use environments is beyond our designers' imagination. For example, the case of this engineering type hand-held outside.
The equipment is mainly used on construction sites, and the shape is mainly based on this kind of tough lines, which not only has a sense of equipment, but also enhances the strength of the product, and the appearance is quite in line with the use scene of the product.
The main body is dark, dotted with bright orange, which is stable and not too dull, and is easy to find, which conforms to the color matching of engineering handheld type.
One of the highlights of the design at that time was that we replaced the traditional operation screen with a pad, so that users did not have to squat in a dirty and hot place for a long time to operate, but only needed to find a clean and comfortable place to operate the flat panel. Therefore, we designed a bin on the front to accommodate the flat panel. At the same time, the bin door can be used as a sun visor. Does this sound good?! But! But! The fact is unsatisfactory! Because of the harsh environment, lack of reliability. For equipment such as field and construction sites, the reduction in reliability is fatal (relative to the comfort of the user).
First of all, the flat panel connection is sometimes delayed, the connection is wrong, and the reliability during operation is reduced. Secondly, the buckle of the cover plate and the rotating shaft will be damaged after being used for a long time, which also reduces the reliability of the product and increases the after-sales cost of the manufacturer. Because users on the construction site sometimes treat the equipment more roughly, too much force, slapping, bumping, etc. are commonplace.
Therefore, when we design this kind of engineering equipment, we must take durability and stability as the premise, and any design that weakens these premises must be abandoned. Otherwise, users will scold us again and again at the scene, O(∩_∩)O
