Suehiro Nagaya is traditional Osaka nagaya (longhouse) built in 1933. The goal is to renovate nagaya so that it can continue to be used as residence. By standardizing the renovation method, quality living can be handed down even as rental housing. Following are six specific key points: (1) utilizing the front yard, (2) distinguishing whether original material or newly-installed material is used for the finishing, (3) reducing the size of the building to create deeper space under the eaves, (4) keeping the water area compact, (5) allowing for DIY and (6) creating a manual on the method for seismic reinforcement.
