Personally, I feel that it will be more harmonious to make a depression on the side and hide the ears in the overall appearance.

Very, very interesting ideas!! I can't help thinking a lot.
When I pinch small things, the finger sockets of my thumb and index finger usually contact first, and then the two fingers bite like gears, extending the connection to the fingertips of the fingers. Very subtle two points, 1. My thumb usually touches a point on the outside of the forefinger fossa, not the center. 2. Before pinching is also the occlusal process, there is a "V" angle between the two fingertips. When the charging treasure is generally 70±10mm, the switch is about 6mm under my rough measurement. I folded a similar model with paper and inserted it into the angle between my thumb and index finger. because of the contact area and the contact angle, its "presence" is very weak.
Regarding the improvement of its presence and use experience, I want to have an interlocking relationship with the overall shape/cross-sectional shape/surface texture. In addition, regarding the psychological suggestion, it is difficult for me to imagine that the partially regular rounded rectangle is a playful Dotty Guy, which is the same/similar (at least visually) resin as the side dividing layer, making me feel that it seems to be a hard button instead of a candy candy that surprises people. If it is really a hard button, the work will lose a lot of color and face the problem of reliability and durability (inevitable bump).
Hope it is an organic form, stretched rubber/cowhide/melted ice cream, or a beautiful curve. If it is not a key, the side part can be seamless. This is not the pursuit of craftsman spirit, but the user may also care about these seams in the product. A device similar to a pull rope switch is set in the rubber or at the end. When pinching and stretching, even the mechanical texture and sound of clicking will occur. That's all for the time being ~ ~ ~

Thank you for your comments and opinions, which are very useful. 1. The switch is made of soft rubber. The first moving picture shows the intention. The middle circle is luminous. 2. The function setting of the switch is only to display the remaining power. The lifting action is more emotional mapping, as if the user is pulling the ear of a naughty little guy, so Guy is used in the name. 3. In the previous version, this switch is actually a folding double-layer tpu, because I want to keep the design language unified and replace it with a more massive rubber. My rendering ability is not good, and the material is not adjusted in place, which misleads you... In fact, the width of this place has been tangled for a long time, and the final result is not necessarily good. My intention is to consider lifting is only a simple operation, if the weight of the interactive experience is still raised to the highest, it will appear dull; longer soft glue also increases the friction area, and the greater the impact of blackening and loss of transparency over time. However, when the hardness of the shorter soft rubber is the same, the deformation is small, and the probability of friction contacting the front is reduced. Generally, the corners are aged first. So the final slender shape (that is, 6mm, your visual level is a bit appalling ). One more thing, I think the adaptability of the hand is the strongest. The information that visual feedback to the brain will make people instinctively reflect that smaller and shorter things should be squeezed with fingers more forward. The GIF figure is a bit exaggerated. In fact, the nail is against the metal shell, and the deformation generated by a slight pinch is enough for the stroke of the micro switch key. 4.Dotty didn't think too much about other reasons because the display effect was a circular dot matrix. 5. Seamless design is a good suggestion to make its design language more uniform. Although it was a previous aircraft draft, it is not in vain to cause a discussion now.
