Today, in Malacca, there are still stories about Zheng He's fleet collecting bird's nest.
According to legend, when Zheng He's fleet sailed to a desert island near Malacca, it encountered strong winds and waves for many days in a row, the fleet could not sail, and the fleet was short of food.
The hungry crew accidentally found the bird's nest on the broken stone cliff of the desert island. Zheng He ordered his men to pick it and wash it with clear water for stew. After Zheng He tasted it, he thought it was edible, so he ordered the crew to pick a lot of food.
Feeding bird's nest not only saved the lives of the crew, but also brought unexpected results. The crew were all ruddy and confident. Zheng He thought bird's nest was a good thing. When he returned home from sailing, he brought some bird's nest as a tribute to Ming Chengzu Zhu Di.
Ming Chengzu Zhu Di was overjoyed and ordered the imperial dining room of the palace to purchase halal ingredients, which were combined with the bird's nest, seafood, tropical fruits and vegetables brought back by Zheng He's fleet to make exquisite dishes to entertain Zheng He and his entourage.
